Keep value and equity separate
The vehicle’s value does not rise or fall because you have a loan. Subtract a current payoff from a potential sale or trade amount to explore equity. An estimate is not an accepted offer, and a real payoff needs a date and lender confirmation.
Choose the kind of sale
Trading can combine the handover with another purchase. A private sale means arranging your own buyer, paperwork and payment verification. Compare the effort and actual net outcome, not only the two headline amounts. Our teaching ranges are not a market appraisal.
Follow your state’s transfer process
Confirm title, lien-release and transfer requirements with your state motor-vehicle agency before agreeing to a handover. Texas, for example, provides a vehicle transfer notification process; do not assume another state uses the same forms or deadlines. Do not send a title or identity document to this preview.
