Keep the evidence separate
A tidy listing can make a car feel like a known quantity. I’d still ask what evidence answers each question. Title data, accident reports, service records, recall searches, diagnostic scans, inspection findings and seller statements all tell us different things—and each can be incomplete.
Keeping them separate helps us see what we still need to learn.
- Use the actual VIN for recall and warranty questions.
- Arrange an independent pre-purchase inspection appropriate to the powertrain.
- Check tires, brakes, fluids, warning messages, underbody, body repairs, charging behavior where applicable, and a cold start when relevant.
Representative photos are not a condition report
OffLot representative media helps explain a model and may show a different year, trim, market, color, or equipment. It does not show the simulated listing's actual damage, wear, cabin, cargo area, or equipment.
The demo boundary
OffLot demo VINs and histories are synthetic. No demo statement should be treated as a vehicle-history report, recall clearance, warranty confirmation, or appraisal.
Build an evidence folder, not a confidence score
For a real vehicle, ask for the identifier, title information, maintenance receipts, seller disclosures and an independent inspection. Each answers a different question. A history report can reveal recorded events but cannot prove that every incident was reported. A tidy appearance is not a mechanical inspection.
A recent service invoice establishes only the work described, on the date and mileage shown.
Read the inspection findings with the planned use in mind. Ask about tire age and wear, fluid leaks, warning lights, corrosion, collision repairs and any powertrain-specific checks. For an EV, ask what battery-health evidence is available and what the test actually measures. Do not turn an unspecified dashboard range into a battery-health percentage.
Keep unresolved issues visible in your decision. A seller who cannot supply a record has not supplied proof that the problem is absent. You may decide to investigate further, negotiate based on documented work, or walk away. OffLot does not turn its synthetic identifiers or generated illustrations into clean-title, accident-free or recall-cleared claims.
Those labels require real records and appropriate verification outside this preview.
