CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS
What is a simple interest car loan?
With a simple interest loan, interest is calculated on the outstanding principal balance, usually daily. Paying early or adding extra toward principal reduces the balance faster and lowers total interest, while paying late increases it. Most auto loans today are simple interest. This differs from precomputed interest loans, where the total interest is set upfront. Your contract should state which method applies.
