CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS

What's included in the amount financed on a car loan?

The amount financed is what you actually borrow. It typically starts with the agreed vehicle price, then adds sales tax, title and registration, dealer documentation fees and any products you choose to finance, such as a service contract or GAP. Your down payment, rebates and trade-in equity are subtracted, and any negative equity from a trade is added. Review the itemization on your contract to make sure nothing was added that you didn't agree to.
