CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS

How is a lease payment calculated?

A lease payment has two main parts. The depreciation charge is the adjusted cap cost minus the residual value, divided by the number of months. The rent charge is the adjusted cap cost plus the residual, multiplied by the money factor. Add those together, then add sales tax as your state requires. On OffLot, the lease estimate on new-vehicle pages breaks out the depreciation and rent charge so you can see how the payment is built.
