CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS
You'll typically need the vehicle title (free of liens), a bill of sale, and an odometer disclosure for most vehicles, plus any state-specific transfer forms. Some states also require a release of liability or notice of sale filed with the DMV so you're not responsible for tickets or tolls after the sale. Remove your license plates if your state requires it, and cancel your insurance only after the transfer is done. Your state DMV website lists the exact forms.
