Replaced an older Subaru with this one. Big step up in fuel economy; I'd like a little more rear headroom.

2026 Subaru Outback review
Subaru Outback: a sensible pick with a few compromises. Illustrative review
8.0/10 OffLot expert score
The 2026 Subaru Outback is a strong contender in its class. Good trunk for the footprint; efficient in mixed driving. Base engine feels adequate, not quick and rear headroom is tight for tall passengers, so test the trim you'd actually buy. Starting around $30,000, it undercuts most direct rivals.

Bought it for the a long commute and it has handled everything so far. Fuel economy has been close to the sticker in mixed driving.
