CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS

What is a destination charge on a new car?

The destination charge, also called a destination or freight fee, is what the manufacturer charges to ship a new vehicle from the factory or port to the dealership. It is listed on the window sticker and is usually the same for a given model no matter where the dealer is located. Because the automaker sets it, it is generally not negotiable on its own. Be cautious of a second "shipping" or "freight" line added by the dealer on top of it.
