CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS
What is debt-to-income ratio for a car loan?
Debt-to-income ratio (DTI) is your total monthly debt payments divided by your gross monthly income. It includes rent or mortgage, credit cards, student loans and the proposed car payment. Lenders use it to judge whether you can afford another payment; acceptable limits vary by lender. Lowering other debts or choosing a less expensive vehicle can improve your DTI and your approval odds.
