CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS
What is a dealer prep fee?
A dealer prep or PDI (pre-delivery inspection) fee is a charge some dealers add for getting a vehicle ready for sale, such as removing shipping plastic, washing and inspecting it. On new cars, manufacturers typically already compensate dealers for this preparation, so many buyers question a separate prep charge. You can ask to have it removed or negotiate the overall price to offset it. Make sure it's clearly listed on the itemized quote.
