CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS
What is the difference between government fees and dealer fees?
Government fees are charges set by your state or locality, such as sales tax, title, registration and plate fees; the dealer collects them and passes them on. Dealer fees are charges the dealer sets, such as documentation or doc fees, prep or reconditioning fees, and pre-installed add-ons. Some states cap doc fees, and amounts vary widely. Ask for an itemized list so you can see which is which. OffLot's lot mode prompts you to ask about this.
