CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS
What is the depreciation charge on a lease?
The depreciation charge is the portion of your payment that covers the value the car loses during the lease. It equals the adjusted cap cost minus the residual value, spread over the number of months. It's usually the largest part of a lease payment. Negotiating a lower price or choosing a vehicle with a higher residual reduces it. On OffLot, the lease estimate shows depreciation separately from the rent charge.
