CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS
What does buying a car as is mean?
As is means the dealer is not offering a warranty, so you are responsible for repairs after the sale, even if problems appear right away. On dealer sales, the FTC Buyers Guide must say whether the car is sold as is. Some states limit or prohibit as-is sales or provide implied warranties, so rules vary. Before buying as is, get an independent pre-purchase inspection and a vehicle history report.
General information, not legal or financial advice; rules vary by state and lender.
