CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS
What does a VIN inspection mean when registering an out-of-state car?
Some states require a VIN verification when you register a vehicle that was last titled in another state. An authorized person, such as a DMV employee, law enforcement officer or licensed inspector depending on the state, confirms the vehicle identification number on the car matches the title and paperwork. It is not usually a mechanical inspection. Your state DMV's website explains whether you need one, who can perform it and whether separate safety or emissions inspections also apply.
