CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS

How much range do EVs lose in cold weather?

EVs typically lose noticeable range in freezing weather, and the drop can be significant in very cold conditions, mainly because heating the cabin and battery uses energy and cold batteries are less efficient. The exact loss varies by vehicle, temperature and driving style. Vehicles with heat pumps tend to hold range better. Preconditioning the cabin and battery while plugged in, using heated seats instead of cabin heat, and parking in a garage can all help.
