CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS

How can I tell if a used car's odometer was rolled back?

Compare the odometer reading against history-report records, service invoices, inspection stickers and the title, which should show mileage at each transfer. Watch for wear that seems heavy for the miles, like worn pedals, steering wheel or driver's seat. Digital odometers can still be tampered with. Federal law requires odometer disclosure when ownership transfers for many vehicles, and odometer fraud is illegal; report suspected fraud to NHTSA or your state attorney general.
