CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS
Do lemon laws apply to used cars?
In most states, lemon laws focus on new vehicles, but some states extend protection to used cars, and a used car still within its factory warranty may qualify under a new-car lemon law in some states. Separately, the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act covers written warranties on used and new vehicles. Rules vary widely, so check your state attorney general's or consumer protection office's website, and keep records of every repair visit if problems keep happening.
