CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS

What is a lemon title?

A lemon title, sometimes called a manufacturer buyback brand, indicates the automaker repurchased the vehicle under a state lemon law because of repeated defects it couldn't fix. Not every state brands these titles the same way, and disclosure rules vary. Some buybacks are properly repaired, but resale value is usually lower. Ask for the repair records and what defect led to the buyback, and get an independent inspection.

General information, not legal or financial advice; rules vary by state and lender.
