CAR-BUYING QUESTIONS

What are title and registration fees?

Title and registration fees are government charges to record you as the vehicle's owner and to register it so it can legally be driven, which includes license plates or tags. They are set by your state and sometimes your county, and can depend on the vehicle's weight, value, age or fuel type. Dealers often collect these and pass them to the state. They are generally not negotiable, but you can check your state DMV's fee calculator to confirm the amount is right.
